Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semisweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth.

  3. 3

    Mix Sugar and Eggs

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, large eggs, and large egg yolks until well combined and slightly frothy.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Slowly pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture while whisking continuously to prevent the eggs from cooking.

  5. 5

    Add Flour and Seasonings

Sift in the all-purpose flour, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Gently fold the mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

  6. 6

    Prepare Ramekins

Grease four ramekins (6 oz size) with butter and dust with flour to prevent sticking. Tap out any excess flour.

  7. 7

    Fill Ramekins

Evenly distribute the batter into the prepared ramekins, filling them about 3/4 full.

  8. 8

    Bake the Cakes

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  9. 9

    Cool Slightly

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool for 1-2 minutes.

  10. 10

    Serve

Carefully run a knife around the edges of each ramekin, invert onto individual plates, and dust with powdered sugar. Serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
