Method

Preparing the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Form the Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each into a half-pound patty, making a slight indentation in the center to help them cook evenly.

  2. 2

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of smoked cheddar cheese on each patty and cover to melt.

Preparing the Toppings

  1. 3

    Cook the Bacon

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon slices until crispy. Remove from the skillet and let them drain on paper towels.

  2. 4

    Prepare the Onion Straws

If using store-bought onion straws, simply set them aside. If making fresh, slice onions thinly, dip in flour, and fry until golden brown.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each burger bun, place the cooked burger patty. Top with a generous portion of smoked brisket, drizzle BBQ sauce over it, add the crispy bacon, and finish with a handful of onion straws. Place the top half of the bun on and serve immediately.
