Method

Burger Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Patty Mixture

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently using your hands until just combined. Do not overwork the meat to keep the burger tender.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions, each weighing half a pound. Shape each portion into a patty about 1 inch thick, making a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing during cooking.

Cooking the Burger

  1. 3

    Cook the Burger

Preheat a grill or stovetop skillet over medium-high heat. Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).

  2. 4

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place the American, Swiss, and Muenster cheese slices on top of each patty. Close the grill lid or cover the pan to help the cheese melt.

Cooking the Bratwurst and Bacon

  1. 5

    Cook the Bacon

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon strips until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  2. 6

    Cook the Bratwurst

In the same skillet, cook the bratwurst for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally until browned and heated through. Alternatively, grill the bratwurst alongside the burger.

Burger Assembly

  1. 7

    Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of the burger bun, spread mustard and ketchup to taste. Place the cooked burger patty on top, followed by the crispy bacon and the split bratwurst. Top with pickles if desired, and close with the other half of the bun.

  2. 8

    Serve

Serve the Big Haus Burger immediately with your choice of sides, such as fries or a salad.
