Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the pasta and set aside.

Cheese Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In the same pot used for the pasta, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the all-purpose flour and whisk continuously for about 1-2 minutes until the mixture is bubbly and golden.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually pour in the milk while whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Continue to cook for about 5 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.

  3. 4

    Add Cheese and Seasoning

Remove the pot from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and mustard powder until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combine and Serve

  1. 5

    Mix Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked elbow macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir well to combine, ensuring all the pasta is coated in the sauce.

  2. 6

    Optional Topping

If desired, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a separate bowl, combine breadcrumbs, grated parmesan cheese, and paprika. Sprinkle the mixture over the mac & cheese. Place in the oven and bake for 15 minutes until golden and crispy.

  3. 7

    Serve

Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve hot as a delicious side dish.
