For the Patty Melt

For the Caramelized Onions

Method

Preparation of Caramelized Onions

  1. 1

    Caramelize the Onions

Slice the onions into thin rings. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and sprinkle with salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Preparation of Haus Sauce

  1. 2

    Mix the Sauce

In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated. Set aside.

Cooking the Patty Melt

  1. 3

    Form and Cook the Patties

In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Form into two equal-sized patties. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired doneness.

  2. 4

    Assemble the Patty Melt

Once the patties are cooked, place one patty on a slice of rye bread. Top with caramelized onions, a slice of American cheese, and a slice of Swiss cheese. Spread a generous amount of haus sauce on another slice of rye bread and place it on top to form a sandwich.

  3. 5

    Grill the Sandwich

In the same skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Place the sandwich in the skillet and grill until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side. Repeat with the second sandwich.
