Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook Spaetzle

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the spaetzle and cook according to the package instructions, usually about 5-7 minutes until tender. Drain and set aside.

Cheese Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes until the mixture is golden and smooth.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to whisk until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Add Cheeses and Seasoning

Once the sauce has thickened, reduce the heat to low and stir in the Muenster, Swiss, and Parmesan cheeses until melted and creamy. Add salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder, mixing well.

Combine and Serve

  1. 5

    Combine Spaetzle and Sauce

Add the cooked spaetzle to the cheese sauce and stir until well coated. If using, fold in your choice of cooked meat.

  2. 6

    Serve

Transfer the mac and cheese to a serving dish. Optionally, you can top it with extra grated cheese or breadcrumbs for a crunchy topping. Serve immediately.
