Method

Preparing Spaetzle

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. In another bowl, whisk together 3 large eggs and 1 cup of milk until well blended. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until a smooth batter forms.

  2. 2

    Cook the Spaetzle

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Using a spaetzle maker or a colander with large holes, press the dough into the boiling water. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the spaetzle floats to the surface. Remove with a slotted spoon and transfer to a bowl.

  3. 3

    Fry the Spaetzle

In a large skillet, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the cooked spaetzle and sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and slightly crispy.

Making Cinnamon Sugar

  1. 4

    Prepare Cinnamon Sugar

In a small bowl, mix together 1 cup of granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon until well combined.

Serving the Dish

  1. 5

    Coat and Serve

Once the spaetzle is fried, sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture generously over the top and toss to coat evenly. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream alongside.
