Prepare the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until smooth.

Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add the cut fries to the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Batter and Fry the Cod
Dip the cod fillets into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place them in the hot oil and fry for 4-6 minutes or until golden and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Serve the hot beer-battered cod with the crispy fries and tartar sauce on the side.
