Method
Brewing Process
- 1
Prepare the Brew
Start by cleaning and sanitizing all your brewing equipment to ensure a clean environment.
- 2
Mash the Grains
In a large kettle, heat 5 liters of water to 70°C (158°F). Add the pale malt and crystal malt into the water. Maintain the temperature for 60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 3
Sparge the Grains
After mashing, sparge the grains with hot water to extract the sugars. Collect all the liquid (wort) in the kettle.
- 4
Boil the Wort
Bring the wort to a boil. Once boiling, add the Cascade hops and boil for 60 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.
- 5
Cool the Wort
After boiling, cool the wort as quickly as possible using a wort chiller or an ice bath until it reaches about 20°C (68°F).
- 6
Fermentation
Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermentation vessel. Pitch the yeast by sprinkling it over the wort. Seal the vessel with an airlock and let it ferment in a dark, cool place for about 1-2 weeks.
- 7
Bottling
After fermentation is complete, dissolve 3 tablespoons of priming sugar in a small amount of boiling water. Add this mixture to the bottling bucket. Siphon the beer into the bottling bucket, mixing gently. Bottle the beer and cap each bottle.
- 8
Carbonation
Allow the bottled beer to carbonate at room temperature for about 1-2 weeks. After carbonation, chill the bottles before serving.
