Country Fried Steak

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Season cube steak with salt and pepper. Dip in buttermilk, then coat in flour thoroughly.

  2. 2

    Fry the Steak

Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry each piece of steak for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown. Set aside on paper towels to drain excess oil.

  3. 3

    Make the Sausage Gravy

In the same skillet, remove excess oil but leave about 2 tablespoons. Crumble the sausage into the skillet and cook until browned. Sprinkle 1/4 cup of flour over the sausage and stir to combine. Gradually add milk while stirring. Continue to cook until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  4. 4

    Cook the Eggs

In a separate pan, cook the additional eggs to your liking (fried, scrambled, etc.).

  5. 5

    Prepare Hash Browns and Toast

Cook hash browns according to package instructions until crispy. Toast the bread slices.

  6. 6

    Assemble the Dish

Place the fried steak on a plate, top with sausage gravy, serve alongside hash browns, toast, and the cooked eggs.
