Method
Prepare Cheeses
Bring cheeses to temperature
Remove all cheeses from refrigeration 30–60 minutes before serving so flavors and textures open up. Keep them on their packaging or lightly covered while they come to room temperature.
Portion and label
Trim any rinds only if desired (e.g., wax rind). Cut the Manchego and aged cheddar into bite-size wedges or shards (about 1/2-inch thick). Leave the Brie whole but score a shallow cross on top to make spreading easier. Crumble or leave the blue cheese in a small portion to allow guests to take as much as they like. Keep each cheese grouped separately on the board.
Prepare Breads & Crackers
Slice the cranberry walnut bread into 1/2-inch thick slices. If you prefer warm bread, lightly toast or grill the slices for 2–3 minutes per side until slightly crisp and let cool a minute. Arrange crackers in small stacks or fans on the board near cheeses that pair well with crisp textures.
Prepare Preserves, Honey & Nuts
Spoon seasonal preserves into a small serving bowl or ramekin. Place whole grain mustard in a second small dish. Put honey in a shallow dish or small jar with a honey dipper if available. Fill a small bowl with candied walnuts and place near cheeses with savory profiles. Ensure each condiment has its own small spoon or spreader to avoid cross contamination of flavors.
Fruit & Garnish
Wash and dry grapes, leave on small stems for easy grabbing. Quarter fresh figs or thinly slice pears and fan them on the board. Scatter candied nuts in small clusters. Tuck rosemary or thyme sprigs between items for visual contrast and aroma.
Assemble Board
Start with the cheeses: place each cheese in a different area of the board so guests can approach from multiple sides. Add the preserves, mustard, and honey dishes next to cheeses they complement (e.g., preserves near Brie, honey near blue or Manchego). Fill gaps with bread slices and crackers, stacking some for height. Place fruit clusters and candied nuts around the cheeses. Insert cheese knives next to their respective cheeses (a soft cheese spreader for Brie, a forked knife for Manchego/cheddar, a small spoon for blue). Garnish with herbs.
Provide small labels/cards if desired to identify each cheese and note allergens (e.g., 'Contains nuts' near candied walnuts). Keep the board out at room temperature for up to 2 hours; return cheeses to chill after longer service.
Serving Suggestions
Recommend pairings: light-bodied white wine (Sauvignon Blanc) or a medium-bodied red (Pinot Noir); or a crisp cider. Suggest guests start with milder cheeses (Brie), then move to cheddar and Manchego, finishing with blue. Offer small plates and napkins.
