Onion Rings
Ranch Sauce
Method
Onion Rings Preparation
- 1
Slice the Onions
Peel and slice the large onions into thick rings, about 1/2 inch thick. Separate the rings and set aside.
- 2
Make the Tempura Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well. Gradually add the cold water while whisking until the batter is smooth. Add ice cubes to keep the batter cold.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- 4
Coat the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the tempura batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow excess batter to drip off before frying.
- 5
Fry the Onion Rings
Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to remove the rings and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Ranch Sauce Preparation
- 6
Mix the Ingredients
In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, dried dill weed, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well until smooth.
- 7
Season the Sauce
Add salt and black pepper to the ranch sauce to taste. Adjust seasoning as desired.
- 8
Chill and Serve
Cover the ranch sauce and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
