Method

Shrimp Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Shrimp

In a bowl, combine the peeled and deveined shrimp with lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to ensure the shrimp are evenly coated. Allow the shrimp to marinate for at least 15 minutes.

Breading Mixture

  1. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a shallow dish, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, paprika, and cayenne pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until smooth.

  2. 3

    Dredge the Shrimp

Take each marinated shrimp and first coat it in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Then, dip it into the egg mixture, followed by a second coating in the flour mixture. Place the breaded shrimp on a plate and repeat until all shrimp are coated.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can check the temperature by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; if it sizzles immediately, the oil is ready.

  2. 5

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully add the breaded shrimp to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the cooked shrimp to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

  3. 6

    Serve

Serve the popcorn shrimp warm with your choice of dipping sauce, such as cocktail sauce or garlic aioli.
