Method
Batter Preparation
- 1
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, ground black pepper, and paprika. Whisk together until well mixed.
- 2
Add Cold Water
Gradually add the cold water to the dry ingredients. Stir until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. Let it rest for about 10 minutes.
Onion Rings Preparation
- 3
Slice the Onion
Peel the large onion and slice it into 1/4 inch thick rings. Carefully separate the rings from each other.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Dip and Coat
Take each onion ring and dip it into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow excess batter to drip off.
- 6
Fry the Onion Rings
Carefully place the battered onion rings in the hot oil, cooking in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm.
