Marinara Sauce
Method
Preparing the Marinara Sauce
- 1
- 2
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- 3
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and keep warm until ready to serve.
Preparing the Calamari
- 4
Prepare the Breading Station
Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour mixed with salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder; one with beaten eggs; and the last with breadcrumbs.
- 5
Coat the Calamari
Dredge each calamari ring in the flour mixture, shaking off excess, then dip into the beaten eggs, followed by coating with breadcrumbs. Place the breaded calamari on a plate.
- 6
- 7
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the breaded calamari rings to the hot oil in batches, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried calamari to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- 8
Serve
Serve the crispy calamari hot with the warm marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
