Hibiscus Basil Syrup

Method

Hibiscus Basil Syrup Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.

  2. 2

    Add Hibiscus Flowers

Once the water is boiling, add 1 cup of dried hibiscus flowers and reduce the heat to medium. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Strain the Mixture

After simmering, remove from heat and strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl. Discard the hibiscus flowers.

  4. 4

    Add Sugar

Return the strained liquid to the saucepan and add 1 cup of sugar. Heat over low heat, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved.

  5. 5

    Add Basil and Lemon Juice

Once the sugar has dissolved, add 1 cup of fresh basil leaves and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Let it steep for 15 minutes, then strain again to remove the basil leaves.

  6. 6

    Cool the Syrup

Let the syrup cool to room temperature and then transfer it to a clean bottle or jar. Store in the refrigerator.

Drink Assembly

  1. 7

    Combine Ingredients

In a glass, combine 1/4 cup of the hibiscus basil syrup with 2 cups of sparkling water or soda.

  2. 8

    Garnish

Stir gently to combine. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve immediately over ice if desired.
