Fried Green Tomatoes
Spicy Remoulade
Method
Fried Green Tomatoes
- 1
Prepare the Tomatoes
Wash the green tomatoes thoroughly and slice them into 1/2-inch thick slices.
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
In one bowl, place the buttermilk. In another bowl, mix the cornmeal, flour, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Dip each tomato slice first into the buttermilk, then dredge in the cornmeal mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers (about 350°F or 175°C).
- 4
Fry the Tomatoes
Carefully add the breaded tomato slices to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Spicy Remoulade
- 5
Mix Ingredients
In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, lemon juice, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- 6
Chill the Sauce
Cover the remoulade and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
