Method

Marinating the Chicken

  1. 1

    Prepare the Marinade

In a large bowl, combine plain yogurt, garam masala, ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric powder, salt, lemon juice, minced garlic, and minced ginger. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Chicken

Cut the chicken breast into bite-sized pieces and add it to the marinade. Ensure all pieces are coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best flavor.

Cooking the Chicken

  1. 3

    Cook the Chicken

In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the oil. Add the marinated chicken and cook until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.

Making the Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Onions

In the same skillet, add chopped onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Garlic and Ginger

Add minced garlic and ginger to the skillet. Sauté for another 2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 6

    Add Tomato Puree

Pour in the tomato puree and stir well. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes.

  4. 7

    Add Coconut Milk

Stir in the coconut milk, garam masala, ground cumin, and salt. Allow the sauce to simmer for an additional 10 minutes.

  5. 8

    Combine Chicken and Sauce

Add the cooked chicken back into the skillet, stirring to coat with the sauce. Let it simmer together for 5 minutes.

  6. 9

    Garnish

Sprinkle chopped cilantro over the top before serving.

Cooking the Rice

  1. 10

    Cook the Rice

In a saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add the basmati rice, cover, and reduce the heat to low. Cook for about 15 minutes or until the rice is tender and water is absorbed. Fluff with a fork.
