Method

Fried Chicken Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, mix the buttermilk, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Add the chicken thighs, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Coating

In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the oil to 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Fry the Chicken

Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, letting the excess drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, pressing to adhere. Fry the chicken in batches for about 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.

Waffle Preparation

  1. 5

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar until well combined.

  2. 6

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  3. 7

    Combine Ingredients

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

  4. 8

    Cook the Waffles

Preheat your waffle iron and lightly grease it. Pour the batter onto the preheated waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions until golden brown and crispy.

Serving

  1. 9

    Plate the Dish

Place a waffle on a plate and top with a piece of fried chicken.

  2. 10

    Add Maple Syrup and Butter

Drizzle generously with maple syrup and add a pat of butter on top of the chicken.

  3. 11

    Serve

Serve immediately while hot for the best flavor and texture.
