Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Coffee Mixture
Brew a strong cup of espresso coffee and let it cool to room temperature. If using, mix in the coffee liqueur with the cooled espresso.
- 2
Make the Mascarpone Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks and granulated sugar together until the mixture becomes pale and creamy. Then, gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
- 3
Whip the Heavy Cream
In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined.
Assembly
- 4
Dip the Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the cooled espresso mixture, making sure not to soak them, as they will become too soggy.
- 5
Layer the Ingredients
In a rectangular or square dish, arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers at the bottom. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- 6
Repeat Layers
Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers on top of the mascarpone mixture, then spread the remaining mascarpone mixture over that layer.
- 7
Chill the Tiramisu
Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
- 8
Serve and Garnish
Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings if desired.
