Method
Tea Base
- 1
Bring 10 oz (about 300 ml) of fresh water to a near-boil (about 200°F / 93°C). If using black tea, use fully boiling water; for more delicate teas reduce temperature slightly to 185–195°F (85–90°C).
- 2
Place 1 black tea bag (or about 1 teaspoon loose-leaf tea) into a mug or heatproof container suitable for a 12 oz drink.
- 3
Pour the hot water over the tea and steep for 3–4 minutes for black tea (4–5 minutes for stronger flavor). Avoid oversteeping to prevent bitterness. If using a flavored/herbal bag, follow the specific steep time for that tea.
- 4
Remove the tea bag (or strain loose leaves) and set the brewed tea aside while you prepare the milk.
Milk Froth
- 5
- 6
Optionally add sweetener to the milk: 1–2 teaspoons granulated sugar or 1–2 teaspoons simple syrup (adjust to taste). If using vanilla, add 1/8 tsp vanilla extract now.
- 7
Froth the milk until it is creamy with a small, fine microfoam. Use one of these methods: - Steam wand: steam to about 140–150°F (60–65°C) and create microfoam. - Handheld electric frother: froth for 20–30 seconds until foamy and slightly warm. - French press: pump briskly for 20–30 seconds after warming the milk to 120–140°F (50–60°C). - Microwave + whisk: heat milk for ~20–30 seconds (do not boil), then vigorously whisk or shake in a tightly sealed jar until foamy.
- 8
Let the milk settle for 5–10 seconds so the foam and liquid slightly separate for easier pouring.
