Toast

Method

Toast

  1. 1

    Prepare bread

Remove one slice of multigrain bread from packaging and let it sit at room temperature for a minute if refrigerated. This ensures even toasting.

  2. 2

    Toast

Place the slice in a preheated toaster set to medium (or in a toaster oven at 350°F / 175°C). Toast until edges are golden and center is crisp but not burnt, about 1.5–3 minutes depending on appliance.

  3. 3

    Butter or oil

While hot, spread 1/2 teaspoon butter or brush 1/2 teaspoon olive oil evenly over the toasted surface so it melts into the bread. If using, sprinkle 1/8 teaspoon sea salt and 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Optional toppings

  1. 4

    Avocado toast (optional)

If using avocado, mash 2 tablespoons of ripe avocado with a fork until slightly chunky and spread evenly over the warm toast. Finish with a pinch of sea salt and 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes if desired.

  2. 5

    Tomato & cheese

Top the buttered toast with 2 slices of tomato and sprinkle 1 tablespoon crumbled feta or goat cheese over the tomato. Optionally season with black pepper.

  3. 6

    Egg-topped toast

If adding an egg, cook a soft-boiled or fried egg to preference (soft-boiled: simmer 6–7 minutes then peel; fried: heat 1/2 teaspoon oil in a small pan and fry until whites set). Place the egg on the toast and season to taste.

  4. 7

    Sweet option

For a sweet variation, spread 1 teaspoon honey or jam on the warm toast instead of savory toppings.
