Smoothie Base

Method

Prep

  1. 1

    Wash and hull

Rinse the fresh strawberries under cold water, remove the stems (hull) and pat dry. If berries are large, quarter them so they blend evenly.

  2. 2

Measure the rolled oats, oat milk, orange juice, yogurt (if using), honey/maple, vanilla, and lemon juice so they are ready to add to the blender.

Blend Smoothie

  1. 3

    Combine ingredients

Add the rolled oats to the blender first, then pour in the oat milk and orange juice. Add the fresh strawberries, frozen strawberries, Greek yogurt (if using), honey or maple syrup, vanilla extract, and lemon juice.

  2. 4

    Pulse then blend

Pulse the blender 3–4 times to break up the frozen berries and oats, then blend on high for 30–45 seconds until completely smooth and creamy. If the mixture is too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons (15–30 ml) additional oat milk or juice and blend again. If too thin, add a few more frozen berries or 1–2 ice cubes and re-blend.

  3. 5

Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity: add an additional 1/2 teaspoon honey or a few drops more lemon juice if needed, then briefly pulse to combine.

Serve

  1. 6

Pour the smoothie into two glasses (or one large), about 10–12 oz capacity each. The recipe fills roughly 16–18 oz total.

  2. 7

Garnish as desired with sliced strawberries, a sprinkle of oat flakes or granola, and a pinch of chia seeds.

  3. 8

Serve immediately for best texture. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 24 hours; stir or shake well before drinking.
