Vodka Ingredients
Method
Vodka Distillation Process
- 1
Mashing
Start by mashing the grain or potato. Combine the grain/potato with water in a large mash tun. Heat the mixture to 65-70°C (149-158°F) and hold for about 1 hour to convert starches into fermentable sugars.
- 2
Fermentation
Cool the mash to room temperature and add the yeast. Allow the mixture to ferment in a fermentation tank for about 3-7 days, until bubbling stops and the liquid clears.
- 3
Distillation
Once fermentation is complete, transfer the liquid to a still. Heat the mixture to separate the alcohol from the water and other components. Collect the distillate, which is your raw vodka.
- 4
Filtration
Filter the raw vodka through activated charcoal to remove impurities and enhance the flavor. This may take several passes to achieve the desired purity.
- 5
Dilution
Dilute the filtered vodka with pure water to achieve the desired alcohol content, typically around 40% ABV.
- 6
Bottling
Bottle the vodka in clean, sterilized bottles. Seal them tightly and label accordingly.
