Cocktail
Optional — For a chilled/iced variation
Method
Prepare & Mix
- 1
Chill glass (optional)
If you prefer a chilled cocktail, place your coupe or rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you build the cocktail.
- 2
Add the cognac, Grand Marnier, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker.
- 3
Fill the shaker with ice (enough to nearly fill it) and secure the lid.
- 4
Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold to the touch and the contents are well chilled and slightly diluted.
- 5
If you chilled your serving glass with ice water, dump the ice water now. Strain the cocktail through a fine mesh strainer (or Hawthorne) into the chilled coupe or a rocks glass over one large ice cube, depending on whether you want it up (no ice) or on the rocks.
Garnish & Serve
- 6
Express the orange twist: hold the twist over the drink and gently squeeze to release the oils across the surface, then rub the peel around the rim for aroma.
- 7
Drop the twist into the drink or perch it on the rim. For the iced variation, you may also add an orange wheel on the rim.
- 8
Serve immediately. Sip and enjoy the balance of cognac warmth and orange liqueur sweetness with a bright citrus lift.
