Burger Assembly

Method

Prepare the Vegetable Patty

  1. 1

    Mash the Beans

In a large bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

Add the oats, chopped bell pepper, grated carrot, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin, salt, and black pepper to the mashed beans. Mix until well combined.

  3. 3

    Form Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties.

  4. 4

    Chill the Patties

Place the patties on a plate and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

Cook the Patties

  1. 5

    Heat Olive Oil

In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 6

    Grill the Patties

Add the chilled patties to the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 7

    Prepare the Buns

While the patties are cooking, slice the burger buns in half and toast them if desired.

  2. 8

    Build the Burger

Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the grilled patty, a slice of tomato, ketchup, and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
