Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add the whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine All Ingredients

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined. Then carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cake

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Prepare the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the whole milk and vanilla extract, mixing until the frosting is smooth and spreadable.

Assembly and Serving

  1. 8

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

  2. 9

    Serve with Ice Cream

Cut the cake into slices and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
