Prepare the Patties

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the patties tender.

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and form each portion into a patty that is about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing while cooking.

Refrigerate the patties for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape during cooking.
