Method
Chicken Marinade
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, hot sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Add the chicken thighs, ensuring they are fully submerged in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
Fried Chicken
- 2
Prepare the Flour Mixture
In a shallow dish, combine the all-purpose flour, cayenne pepper, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- 3
Fry the Chicken
Heat the vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess flour. Carefully place the chicken in the oil and fry for about 10-12 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F). Drain on paper towels.
Waffles
- 4
Prepare the Waffle Batter
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. In another bowl, combine the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined (lumps are okay).
- 5
Cook the Waffles
Preheat the waffle maker according to the manufacturer's instructions. Pour an appropriate amount of batter into the waffle maker and cook until golden brown and crisp, usually about 4-5 minutes. Repeat with remaining batter.

Assemble the Dish
On a plate, place a warm waffle, top it with a piece of fried chicken, and drizzle with maple syrup. Dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve immediately.
