Method

Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Ganache Directions

  1. 8

    Heat the Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it starts to simmer. Do not let it boil.

  2. 9

    Combine Chocolate and Cream

Place the chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for 5 minutes.

  3. 10

    Stir Until Smooth

After 5 minutes, stir the mixture until the chocolate is completely melted and the ganache is smooth.

  4. 11

    Cool the Ganache

Let the ganache cool at room temperature until it thickens, about 10-15 minutes.

  5. 12

    Assemble the Cake

Place one cake layer on a serving plate, spread a layer of ganache on top, then place the second cake layer on top. Pour the remaining ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  6. 13

    Serve

Slice the cake and serve it at room temperature, or refrigerate for a firmer ganache.
