Onion Rings

Method

Onion Rings

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well. Gradually add the buttermilk and stir until the batter is smooth.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Fry the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Carefully place the rings in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

  5. 5

    Drain and Serve

Remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with Cajun remoulade.
