Popcorn Shrimp

Method

Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Shrimp

In a bowl, combine the buttermilk with the shrimp, cover, and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Mix the Coating

In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, cayenne pepper, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Coat the Shrimp

Remove the shrimp from the buttermilk and allow excess to drip off. Dredge the shrimp in the flour mixture, ensuring they are fully coated.

  5. 5

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully add the coated shrimp to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the popcorn shrimp hot with a side of spicy Creole sauce for dipping.
