Gravy Base
Method
Preparing the Gravy
- 1
Melt the Butter
In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter until it is bubbly and foamy.
- 2
Make the Roux
Add the all-purpose flour to the melted butter, whisking constantly to create a smooth paste. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the roux is a light golden color.
- 3
Add the Broth
Gradually pour in the turkey broth while continuously whisking to prevent lumps. Keep whisking until the mixture is smooth.
- 4
Incorporate Heavy Cream
Once the broth is fully incorporated, stir in the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- 5
Season the Gravy
Add salt, black pepper, dried thyme, garlic powder, and onion powder to the gravy. Stir well to combine all the flavors.
- 6
Simmer and Thicken
Allow the gravy to simmer on low heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
- 7
Serve
Remove the gravy from heat and serve hot, either drizzled over roasted turkey or as a dipping sauce for subs.
