Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes or until browned and cooked through.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until soft. Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

  3. 6

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add chopped fresh basil before serving.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 7

    Assemble Sandwiches

Slice the sub rolls in half and place 2-3 meatballs in each roll. Spoon marinara sauce over the meatballs, then top with provolone cheese slices.

  2. 8

    Melt Cheese

Place the assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  3. 9

    Garnish

Sprinkle grated Romano cheese on top before serving.
