Burger Patty

Toppings

Method

Prepare the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Mash the Black Beans

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked black beans and mash them with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.

  2. 2

    Cook the Onion and Garlic

In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent and fragrant.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the sautéed onion and garlic to the mashed black beans. Then, mix in the oat flour, cumin powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and the egg (or flax egg) until everything is well combined.

  4. 4

    Form Patties

Using your hands, form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties. Ensure they are compact to hold together while cooking.

  5. 5

    Cook the Patties

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Heat over medium heat and cook each patty for about 5-6 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 6

    Prepare the Buns

Toast the burger buns lightly on a skillet or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 7

    Add Toppings

On the bottom half of each bun, layer a lettuce leaf, followed by a black bean patty, sliced tomato, avocado, and optional cheese slice.

  3. 8

    Condiments

Add ketchup and mustard to taste on the top half of the bun.

  4. 9

    Finish Assembly

Place the top half of the bun over the toppings and press down gently to hold it together.
