For the Onion Rings

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Batter

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Gradually add the ice-cold water, stirring until the batter is smooth and slightly thick.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off.

  5. 5

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil, frying them in batches. Fry until they are golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the onion rings and drain them on paper towels. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
