Cooking Directions
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- 2
Make the Coating
In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- 3
Soak in Buttermilk
Place the calamari rings in another bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Let them soak for about 30 minutes.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
- 5
Coat the Calamari
Remove the calamari from the buttermilk, allowing the excess to drip off. Dredge them in the flour mixture until well coated.
- 6
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in small batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove and drain on paper towels.
- 7
Serve
Serve the crispy calamari hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
