Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Glass

Chill an Old Fashioned glass by filling it with ice water and setting it aside.

  2. 2

    Mix the Ingredients

In a mixing glass, combine the sugar cube and Peychaud's bitters. Muddle them together until the sugar cube is dissolved.

  3. 3

    Add Rye Whiskey

Pour in the rye whiskey and fill the mixing glass with ice. Stir gently until well chilled, about 30 seconds.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Glass for Serving

Empty the ice water from the chilled Old Fashioned glass. Rinse the glass with absinthe by adding it to the glass, swirling to coat the inside, and then discarding the excess.

  5. 5

    Strain and Garnish

Strain the chilled rye whiskey mixture into the prepared glass. Express the lemon peel over the drink to release its oils, then drop it into the glass as a garnish.
