Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel and wash the potatoes. Cut them into thin slices or wedges, ensuring they are roughly the same size for even cooking.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the sliced potatoes in a bowl of cold water and soak them for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes them crispier.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large frying pan or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a slice of potato in; it should sizzle.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.

  3. 5

    Season the Potatoes

In a large bowl, toss the dried potato slices with salt, black pepper, paprika, and optional garlic powder until evenly coated.

  4. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the seasoned potato slices to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  5. 7

    Drain and Serve

Once fried, remove the potatoes from the oil and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate. If desired, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the hot potatoes before serving.
