Method
Soda Base
- 1
Chill and prepare glass
If possible, chill the serving glass in the refrigerator or freezer for 5–10 minutes. Fill the glass about three-quarters full with ice cubes (approximately 1 cup).
- 2
Add syrup
Measure 1.5 fl oz flavored syrup and pour it directly over the ice in the glass. Adjust syrup amount to desired sweetness if needed (reduce by 0.25–0.5 fl oz for less sweet, increase up to 2 fl oz for extra sweet).
- 3
Top with carbonated water
Hold the glass at a slight angle and slowly pour 12 fl oz chilled carbonated water over the back of a spoon or down the side of the glass to preserve effervescence and minimize foaming. Pour gently until the glass is nearly full, leaving ~0.5 in headspace.
- 4
Light stir
Using a long spoon or straw, gently stir one or two slow rotations to mix syrup and carbonated water evenly without knocking out too much carbonation.
Optional Add-ins & Garnish
- 5
If desired, squeeze a wedge of lemon or lime over the top and drop the wedge into the glass for a citrus accent. Top with a maraschino cherry on a cocktail pick, and add a straw.
