Prepare the Glass
Take an old fashioned glass and place it on a flat surface.

Add Ice
Add 3 ice cubes to the glass.

Mix Ingredients
In a separate mixing glass, combine 2 oz of bourbon or rye whiskey, 0.5 oz of simple syrup, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

Stir
Stir the mixture gently for about 20-30 seconds until well-chilled.

Strain into Glass
Strain the chilled mixture into the prepared old fashioned glass over the ice cubes.

Garnish
Express the oils of an orange peel over the drink, then place the peel in the glass. Add a maraschino cherry for garnish.
