Method
Pulled Pork Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pork
In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to create a spice rub.
- 2
Season the Pork
Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it is well coated.
- 3
Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker and add apple cider vinegar. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the meat is tender and shreds easily.
- 4
Add BBQ Sauce
Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks. Mix in the BBQ sauce to coat the shredded pork.
Coleslaw Preparation
- 5
Mix the Coleslaw Dressing
In a large bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- 6
Combine the Coleslaw Ingredients
Add the shredded cabbage and carrots to the dressing. Toss until the vegetables are evenly coated.
- 7
Chill the Coleslaw
Cover the coleslaw and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Sandwich Assembly
- 8
Toast the Buns
If desired, lightly toast the hamburger buns in a skillet or oven until golden brown.
- 9
Assemble the Sandwich
On the bottom half of each bun, place a generous portion of the pulled pork. Top with coleslaw and pickles if using. Add the top half of the bun.
