Method

Pudding Base Preparation

  1. 1

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, whisk together the milk, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt until smooth.

  2. 2

    Heat Mixture

Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture begins to thicken and bubble, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 3

    Incorporate Egg Yolks

In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks. Gradually add a few spoonfuls of the hot pudding mixture to the yolks, whisking constantly to temper them. Once mixed, return the yolk mixture to the saucepan.

  4. 4

    Finish Cooking

Continue to cook the pudding for another 2-3 minutes, stirring until it thickens to a custard-like consistency. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Layer the Ingredients

In a serving dish, arrange a layer of vanilla wafers at the bottom, followed by a layer of sliced bananas, and then pour a layer of the pudding over the top.

  2. 6

    Repeat Layers

Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of pudding on top.

  3. 7

    Top with Whipped Cream

Spread whipped cream over the final layer of pudding. For decoration, you can also add additional banana slices and crushed vanilla wafers.

  4. 8

    Chill

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until set.
