Smoothie Base

Optional Boosters

Method

Smoothie Base

  1. 1

    Prepare frozen fruit

Measure out 1.5 cups frozen mixed berries and 1 cup frozen sliced banana. Keep frozen until ready to blend for a thick bowl texture.

  2. 2

Add the frozen berries and banana to a high-speed blender or powerful food processor. This will form the thick base for the bowl.

  3. 3

Pour in 3 tablespoons unsweetened almond milk and add 3 tablespoons plain Greek yogurt. The small amount of liquid keeps the mixture spoonable rather than drinkable.

  4. 4

Add 1 scoop protein powder, 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed, and 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup. These increase protein, fiber, and a touch of sweetness.

  5. 5

If using optional boosters, add 1/2 cup fresh spinach, 1 teaspoon chia seeds, or 1 tablespoon peanut butter now. Spinach blends in without changing color much; peanut butter will increase creaminess and calories.

  6. 6

Secure the lid and blend on high in 10–20 second bursts, pausing to scrape down the sides as needed. If the mixture is too stiff for the blades to turn, add an additional 1–2 teaspoons almond milk at a time until the mixture moves but remains thick and scoopable (aim for soft-serve consistency). Total blending time typically 30–60 seconds depending on equipment.

  7. 7

Stop when the texture is thick and creamy — you should be able to scoop it with a spoon and have the swirls hold shape.

Assemble & Top

  1. 8

Divide the smoothie base between two bowls (or keep in one large bowl). Use a spatula to smooth the top.

  2. 9

Sprinkle 2 tablespoons (0.25 cup total) granola over each bowl (or divide across bowls) for crunch. Arrange 1/2 cup sliced fresh banana and 0.25 cup extra mixed berries on top.

  3. 10

Finish with 1 teaspoon hemp seeds or chopped nuts and 1 teaspoon shredded coconut per bowl for additional texture and healthy fats. If you added peanut butter to the base, consider drizzling a little extra on top.

  4. 11

Serve immediately with a spoon. If not serving right away, keep chilled and consume within 2 hours for best texture; if stored longer, the bowl will soften — stir before eating or refreeze briefly to firm up.
