Method

For the Sponge Cake

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cake Batter

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk and vanilla extract, mixing well.

  2. 2

    Combine and Bake

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  3. 3

    Cool the Cake

Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, using a fork, poke holes all over the top of the cake to help absorb the milk mixture.

For the Milk Mixture

  1. 4

    Prepare the Milk Mixture

In a mixing bowl, combine the evaporated milk, condensed milk, and whole milk. Whisk until well combined.

  2. 5

    Soak the Cake

Slowly pour the milk mixture over the cooled sponge cake, making sure to coat the entire surface and allowing it to soak in through the holes. Cover the cake and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

For the Topping

  1. 6

    Whip the Cream

In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with the powdered sugar until soft peaks form.

  2. 7

    Serve

Spread the whipped cream over the top of the soaked cake. Garnish with sliced strawberries and a dusting of powdered sugar before serving.
