Method
Making the Hummus
- 1
Prepare the Chickpeas
Drain and rinse the canned chickpeas under cold water to remove excess sodium and any canning liquid.
- 2
Blend the Ingredients
In a food processor, combine the drained chickpeas, tahini, fresh lemon juice, minced garlic (you can mince it or leave it whole for a stronger flavor), olive oil, ground cumin, and salt.
- 3
Add Water
While blending, gradually add the water to achieve the desired consistency. Blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides of the bowl as necessary.
- 4
Taste and Adjust
Taste the hummus and adjust seasoning, adding more salt or lemon juice if desired. Blend again to incorporate any adjustments.
Serving the Hummus
- 5
Prepare Pita Bread
Warm the pita bread in a toaster or on a skillet over medium heat for a minute or two until soft and slightly crispy.
- 6
Plate the Hummus
Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl and drizzle with extra olive oil. Optionally, sprinkle paprika and chopped fresh parsley on top for garnish.
- 7
Serve
Serve the hummus alongside warm pita bread for dipping.
