Method

Preparation

1

Slice the Bananas

Peel and slice the bananas into approximately 1/2 inch thick pieces. Set aside.

Sauce Preparation

2

Melt Butter and Combine

In a skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, add the brown sugar and cinnamon. Stir until the mixture is bubbly and the sugar has dissolved.

3

Add Bananas

Carefully add the sliced bananas to the skillet, stirring gently to coat them in the sauce. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the bananas are warmed through.

4

Flambé the Rum

Remove the skillet from heat. Carefully add the dark rum to the skillet. Using a long lighter or a match, ignite the rum to flambé. Allow the flames to subside as the alcohol burns off, which should take about 30 seconds.

5

Finish the Sauce

Once the flames have died down, stir in the vanilla extract. Let the sauce simmer for another minute to blend the flavors.

Serving

6

Plate the Dessert

Scoop 2 servings of vanilla ice cream into individual bowls. Spoon the warm banana foster sauce over the ice cream while it's still warm.

7

Serve Immediately

Serve the banana foster immediately while it's warm, allowing the ice cream to melt slightly into the sauce.
