Flan Ingredients
Method
Flan Preparation
Make the Caramel
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then stop stirring and allow it to boil until it turns a deep golden brown. Be careful not to burn it. Immediately pour the caramel into a round 9-inch cake pan, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
Prepare the Flan Mixture
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, orange zest, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
Combine and Bake
Pour the flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the cake pan. Place the cake pan in a larger baking dish and fill the larger dish with water halfway up the sides of the flan pan. This creates a water bath to ensure even cooking. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.
Cool and Serve
Once baked, remove the flan from the oven and let it cool to room temperature. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. To serve, run a knife around the edges, invert onto a serving plate, and enjoy!
