Preparation of Meat
Prepare Chicken
If using chicken breast, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Season the chicken with salt, black pepper, cumin, and chili powder. Cook for about 6-7 minutes on each side until fully cooked. Let it rest for a few minutes, then shred using two forks.
Prepare Shredded Beef
For shredded beef, heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet. Add the shredded beef and season with salt, black pepper, cumin, and chili powder. Cook for about 5-6 minutes until heated through, stirring occasionally.
Prepare Ground Beef
In the same skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat, then season with salt, black pepper, cumin, and chili powder. Stir and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.
Toppings Preparation
Chop Vegetables
While the meat is cooking, chop the tomatoes and lettuce. Dice the tomatoes into small cubes and shred the lettuce into thin strips.
Prepare Cheese
Grate the Mexican cheese if not pre-grated.
Assembly
Assemble Tacos
Warm the taco shells in the oven for 5 minutes at 180°C (350°F). Once warmed, fill each taco shell with your choice of meat (chicken, shredded beef, or ground beef). Top with chopped tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and grated Mexican cheese.
Serve
Serve the tacos immediately with optional lime wedges and your favorite salsa on the side.
