Method

Prepare the Cheese Mixture

  1. 1

    Combine Cream Cheese

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, soften the cream cheese by allowing it to sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes. Once soft, use a hand mixer or whisk to beat until creamy.

  2. 2

    Add the Cheeses

Gradually mix in the cheddar cheese and Monterey Jack cheese until fully incorporated into the cream cheese.

  3. 3

    Incorporate Sour Cream and Milk

Add the sour cream and milk to the cheese mixture. Continue to mix until smooth and creamy.

Flavor the Dip

  1. 4

    Add Spices and Chilies

Stir in the diced green chilies, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, black pepper, and jalapeños (if using) into the cheese mixture. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.

Heat the Dip

  1. 5

    Cook on the Stovetop

Transfer the queso dip mixture to a medium saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until the cheese is melted and the dip is heated through (about 10-15 minutes).

  2. 6

    Serve

Once heated, remove from heat and serve immediately with tortilla chips.
